Seems to me like Dad’s oldest and namesake worked hard to be the same sort of dad that he had himself—and idolized:
- also 5 kids,
- also 3 girls and 2 boys,
- also the oldest boy named for him, and, reportedly,
- also away and otherwise focused a lot of the time, though when with the kids so focused on them that they felt loved and adored.
That can be a hard thing for a mother of 5 or even just 3, like Ivana had, to handle. Don Jr. of course managed to get all 5 kids in with his first wife, but Donald and Don Jr both had first marriages that lasted 15 years. Donald, however, was 6 years older at the time of his first marriage—and divorce.
