Well, that is damned inconvenient. A state-of-the-art pedestrian bridge hailed as the inevitably wondrous result of diversity in engineering has collapsed within days of being paraded before the media. Did I say inconvenient? I should have said symbolic.
“Diversity Bridge” (that’s not the structure’s official name, but I think it fits) was designed to connect Florida International University to the city of Sweetwater, where many FIU students and staff reside. The bridge, installed (though not yet opened to the public) a mere four days before its failure, spanned a busy Miami highway, and the collapse crushed cars and people underneath. Authorities report at least six deaths.

And now Purdue University's department of engineering education advocates "non-rigorous" engineer education to promote "diversity."
Here in my city, I encounter on a daily basis graduates of Florida A&M University, an HBCU. I’ve been less than impressed with the abilities of 95% of these folks, they write and speak at about an 8th grade level.
The FIU student interviewed on fox couldn’t even speak English.

Wow, they speak at 8th grade level? That’s really good for them, I rarely hear anything above 4th grade where I am.
Those are the ones who hold “Masters Degrees” lol.
Another reason I don’t park to close to train tracks and avoid new overpasses.
Video of the FL bridge collapse suggests either lack of, or inadequate, steel reinforcement. It broke up like a dried out butter cookie, no twisting of structure or stringing together of parts. The engineer called in his observation of cracking just before collapse.
Lawyers going to be lined up around the block for this one.
I waited and waited. A couple hours later he called. He was still looking for my place. He had driven to a University Avenue that ran East and West in another town.
That Civil Engineer with a Masters Degree is now designing bridges.

Why would they need engineering when they have feelings and diversity to support the bridge?
FIU was awarded millions of federal dollars to “diversify” its STEM classes. And even after the disaster, FIU’s president, Mark Rosenberg, defended the project, claiming that at least they were trying to “build a bridge, not a wall.”Even before the dead are buried, somehow President Trump and his supporters are dragged into the rubble and snarked at by the school president! Un-friggin believable.
Here is a 10 minute video by the guy that did the Oroville dam updates. He gives a background on the bridge and what the likely failure was. A quick summary of the failure is the trusses at each end of bridge had to be adjusted after the move. The original design called for the transports to be under both ends. Since they moved the transports closer to the center of the span, they had to adjust tension in the outer trusses for the move and then change them back once in place. It was during this process when the bridge failed.
