The USPS have used their monopoly of 1st class mail to subsidize their package delivery system for a long time. When I worked for UPS, UPS approached congress complaining that the USPS was using unfair business practices in order to compete with us. I have a feeling that the post office is going to have a hard time holding on to Amazon’s business. IMO, Amazon is getting rates below the actual costs of service.

I don’t order from Amazon very often, but when I do I select 5 to 8 business day delivery. I live in a smaller metro area that has UPS and FEDEX in town. My take is Amazon tells UPS/FEDEX to hand off the delivery to the post office to SLOW the delivery process down for the last mile.

Sounds like you are on the same page that POTUS and I are on.
