The Trump administration has introduced production quotas for immigration judges in an effort to reduce enormous court backlogs, drawing criticism from some that decisions may be unfairly rushed.
The Justice Departments Executive Office for Immigration Review said judges must complete 700 cases a year to earn a satisfactory grade. The standards, which take effect Oct. 1, include six other measures indicating how much time judges should spend on different types of cases and court motions.
The move, while significant, didnt come as a surprise. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who oversees immigration courts, has sought major changes to unclog the courts as a sharp increase in deportation arrests under President Donald Trump has pushed the court backlog above 650,000 cases. In December, Sessions wrote judges that performance measures would aid in the efficient and timely completion of cases and motions while maintaining fairness.
James McHenry, director of the Executive Office for Immigration Review, used similar language in an email Friday that details the new measures for the departments approximately 350 immigration judges.

It’s time to pick up the pace!
MAGA!!!!!
Note that these are administrative judges, ie bureaucrats in robes
If they don’t meet the quotas, pay them 2 cents an hour.
They should be averaging 10 to 12 for a day’s work.
These cases are not difficult or rigorous.
I thought Judges were supposed to be smart.
Like they could easily sort out situations and render speedy Justice.
“The National Immigration Judges Association, which represents the judges in collective bargaining agreements, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.”
Oh Great! We have another Effing Public Employee Union! Postal Employees dressed in Black Robes! What’s next, a “work slowdown” to express their “dissatisfaction” with having to work at their jobs for a change? Free laundry service for their robes?
I have a novel idea. How about tending to your own knittin’, try YOUR assigned cases, and stop meddling in POTUS’ perfectly legal immigration directives, etc.
If those judges worked 270 days each year and heard 3 cases/day they could dispose of 810 cases each year.
That ain’t hard work.
What are these judges doing, watching porn on the web?
Taking half day lunches?
Next!
Name?
Birth Certificate?
Gavel **BANG***....Deport!
Next!
Three minutes per case. :-)
That will only take 300 years to work off the backlog.
10-12 They should be rubber stamping 500 deportations a day. Fill 10 buses each day or get a new job.
Why wait 5 months to implement the new quotas?
The slow-walking on implementing changes is ridiculous.
POTUS needs to explain to his AG that he wants action NOW.
No kidding, this “quota” sounds like a very low bar.
