Report: Trump Looking for Ways to Target Amazon
National Review ^ | April 3, 2018 | MAIREAD MCARDLE

President Trump launched a string of Twitter attacks on Amazon.com Inc. over the weekend and is reportedly looking for ways to target the monster e-commerce company.

Amazon’s stock sank on Thursday after the president tweeted that “they pay little or or no taxes to state & local governments, use our Postal System as their Delivery Boy (causing tremendous loss to the U.S.), and are putting many thousands of retailers out of business!”

Trump’s beef with Amazon is exacerbated by the fact that chief executive Jeff Bezos also owns The Washington Post, which has provoked Trump by its negative coverage of him.

“He’s off the hook on this. It’s war,” a White House source told Vanity Fair’s Gabriel Sherman.

“He gets obsessed with something, and now he’s obsessed with Bezos,” another source said. “Trump is like, how can I f*ck with him?”

Trump said before the Easter weekend that the Post Office loses $1.50 on average for each package it delivers for Amazon, a statistic that has been challenged by analysts. The company also pays the sales tax in 45 states.

By Monday Amazon was still on the president’s mind, and stock dipped again 5 percent.

The President should not target a company because he has a grudge against its owner. That's what happens in a banana republic.

I got Dennis Prager’s “The Rational Bible” yesterday...the same day of release, via Amazon. I’m reading it right back to them now.

Let’s target the army of illegal aliens marching towards our border, and worry about Amazon later.

Using your "reporters" to conduct a 24/7/365 vendetta happens in a banana republic.

Zero & Lois Lerner would have slapped everyone of consequence at Amazon and the Washington Post with an IRS audit, and Zero would have wiretapped all of them with the NSA.

“The company also pays the sales tax in 45 states. “

More 21st century journalism-—— Amazon collects the sales tax,it doesn’t pay it.

We like Amazon too, we live 20 miles from town and Amazon is much more convenient than driving 40 miles every time you need something. I think Trump needs to reconsider this bashing.

I have some Amazon stock, and therefore have taken a hit recently, but I also have to agree with Trump that by buying the Washington Post, in addition to the extremely large amount of control Amazon has in the market, Bezos is starting to bump into monopoly status - particularly since he is using his financial clout politically, beyond just his right to his opinion as a US citizen.

Yes. I heard a reoprt yesterday that our Military is considering using the Amazon cloud exclusively. I agree that Trump is trying to thwart an Amazon monopoly. And I absolutely believe an Amazon monopoly would be disastrous, in light of Bezos political beliefs.

He’s right! The USPS should not be giving subsidies to a company worth billions. The increased labor costs for USPS Sunday delivery alone probably offsets any additional revenue from Amazon.

Great and illuminating thread. Everyone loves the President until he threatens to make their lives a little less convenient for the greater good. “Amazon? Oh no, don’t criticize them. Thats where I buy all my cheap crap!!”

Well stated. The Stasi and the FSB need to get on this case ASAP. No dissent shall be tolerated.
