Mark Zuckerberg Loses Support from Tech Elite: ‘Facebook Is the New Cigarettes’

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly losing support amongst his peers in Silicon Valley following Facebook’s latest user data scandal. Bloomberg reports that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been left with few defenders in Silicon Valley following his company’s latest user data scandal. Amongst Zuckerberg’s biggest critics in the tech industry is Apple CEO Tim Cook, Tesla’s Elon Musk and Salesforce.com’s Marc Benioff, while many other Silicon Valley firms have fallen silent in the wake of the Facebook user data scandal, a stark contrast to how tech firms usually react when one of their own is attacked.

When other major tech brands have been questioned by the government — which Mark Zuckerberg very likely will be as he has been called to testify before Congress twice — Silicon Valley companies have rallied behind those attacked, such as when Apple fought with the FBI to protect the unlocking of an encrypted iPhone belonging to the San Bernardino terrorist. Gennie Gebhart, a researcher at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, stated “Protecting privacy is good for business now. Users are looking for other big tech personalities like Tim Cook, like Elon Musk, to be reassured that they’re not doing what Facebook did.”

Cook has particularly taken issue with Facebook following their most recent scandal stating that he “wouldn’t be in this situation” if he were Zuckerberg. Zuckerberg gave a lengthy response to Cook saying “I find that argument — that if you’re not paying, that somehow we can’t care about you — to be extremely glib and not at all aligned with the truth.”

Their “feed the other guy to the alligator” has never been shown to be a long-term winning strategy. The alligator will eventually get hungry again and eat them.

I think that’ll happen when someone comes up with a perpetual motion machine.

The mainstream (i.e., non-tech) media and the public are just now noticing what has been in plain site for many years. And Facebook is the tip of the iceberg. If you're using uBlock Origin, look at the blacklisted domains it's blocking when you go to almost any "modern" website.

If a social network doesn’t get filled with garbage then it doesn’t generate any revenue.

There has to be someone who could come up with a successful way to provide a social network that doesn’t become filled with garbage, and doesn’t violate the privacy rights of the users.

If the social network is run scrupulously, and those who own and operate it refuse to sell data to anyone while also taking extreme data security measures, you could probably find a way to have a site that did not violate anyone's privacy (any more than they themselves do by posting personal information on a publicly accessible internet site).

However, if you are going to allow actual human beings to use there is no way you can prevent it from being filled with garbage.

“If I was one of those tech innovators, I’d be working feverishly on the next Facebook. There has to be someone who could come up with a successful way to provide a social network that doesn’t become filled with garbage, and doesn’t violate the privacy rights of the users.”

The problem isn’t that it’s filled with garbage. The fact that they violate privacy rights is a symptom of their real problem.

The problem is that they make SO MUCH money selling that data that their stock price / business model requires them to do it. At this point, the company stock price would crash if that revenue stream dried up.

“Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly losing support amongst his peers in Silicon Valley”

It’s “penis envy,” the little Capo has way, way more money than they do. They are all just jealous of his profound wealth, and hope to bring him off of the top of his money pile. I wish them good luck, Zuck the XXXX needs to be brought back to reality.

Live by the dictates of the Social Justice Warriors. Die by the dictates of the Social Justice Warriors.

There's a lesson for other social media companies.

Take the side of freedom for all because when the going gets tough no one will side with you*.

*They will never learn this lesson.

Nope, you are miles off.
FB has violated Anti Trust laws which are in place to protect the people and companies from monopoly controls.

Microsoft, Intel, Apple and Google all know the law.
FB, who controls at least 50% of the Ad $$$ knew it too.
They chose to ignore it.

Every year at Intel, every employee had to get mandatory training on the dangers of violating Anti Trust.
A small mistake could open the company to huge lawsuits and very possibly require a breakup of Intel.

Remember ATT?

Naw.....when I was young, I smoked for about 20 years, and not ONCE did Marlboro give out any of my personal information or private data.

Facebook needs to go the way of Toys ‘R’ Us.
