Since we’re on dogs, I happened to find the channel of Reuben the Bulldog this weekend; a high-maintenance but adorable dog. I think I spent two hours watching him:

“Chihuahuas are the most aggressive dogs ever.”
A guy down the street had one that would constantly attack my 140 pound Briard. It was silly. Pandemonium could have bitten it in one half with one bite!
“They really need to ban Swedes and other Scandinavians as well.”
Well, that lets me out.
I never had a St Bernard either, I know they’re totally harmless... but if a town bans them... well, I wonder how many criminals/sex offenders/illegals they have wondering about?
Malamutes? I have never seen a vicious Malamute. I have seen one GSD Malamute mix that just loves to be around children.
It is because they can't just say it is pittbulls even though everyone knows those are the problem breed.
The damn pittbull owners can't accept they have dangerous dogs that don't belong in neighborhoods so the people in charge have to make sure it is not just pittbulls.
One day the painfully and overwhelmingly obvious conclusion will occur to these totally delusional people that think if you just raise a pittbull right, it will not go off like a ticking time bomb and attack a child or its owner.
We have Great Pyrenees. She is the sweetest dog and follows me everywhere.
Excellent points
Any dog can be a problem if it isn’t raised and socialized correctly. But I agree with you that pit bulls are a special issue. A dog that has been bred for so many generations to be a fighting dog - and generations of them abused precisely to make them aggressive - can’t be counted upon genetically/temperamentally.
I lived in a neighborhood many years ago where a certain segment of the youth deliberately mistreated these dogs to make them mean. There were times when we had to carry a baseball bat in case we encountered one just going out to the car, because they let them run loose. And they were breeding these dogs, many of which progeny ended up in shelters, to be adopted out by others who knew nothing of the background or how to handle them.
The breed was eventually banned in my County, and I think that was a good idea; though it hasn’t stopped some people from keeping them. I’ve known people who have had them, whose dogs seemed reliable - but it’s not something I would count upon.
I have had Great Danes for years ands they are more typically referred to as Clown Dogs because of their great attitude and nature. I have been around Pits, Staffies, Cane Corso Mastiffs, Boxers, St. Bernards, German Shepherds on and on..
This is total BS
Makes me sick
Stoopid Bastages
Be funny if it weren't so effin stupid. Is the the canine equivalent of "assault weapons"?
It’s curious to me that they didn’t include Dalmatians on this list - those can be very ‘iffy’ if not trained extremely well...
Well, it is Fayette County after all. Fayette (Lexington) and Jefferson (Louisville) are sadly our equivalents of Montgomery County MD.
If you sit on the floor, your Saint will come over and sit next to you. Eye contact is almost level.
Home alone, you can bare your soul to your dear friend and confessor. The dog will tilt his head as if to say "Go on - tell me more".
At the appropriate moment, your canine psychiatrist will put all in proper perspective. He will yawn at your boring tale of human frailty.
Sorry, you are completely incorrect here. That is what a lot of apologists for pit bulls call pit bulls. Also, “wiggle butts”.
Great Danes have never been called “clown dogs”.
This discussion is now focused on the temperament of the St. Bernard, which should not have been on the list in the first place, but is now lumping pit bulls and related fighting breeds in with the generally non-dangerous ones.
This is to cause confusion.
I guess I’d just have to settle for a Caucasian Shepherd then. Although it’s hard to find them much over 200 pounds.

Heh, heh, heh. Or at all, at least the real thing. They are keeping them REAL close to home in Russia, Urals, Georgia, Ukraine. There are some that show up on CL once in a while, but the first- and second- generations of Russian Immigrants on the way-out farms who sell them I wouldn’t trust as far as you can throw them. THERE’s a niche breed, if there ever was one. Ovchartka! Although I did have a friend who had an Akbash for awhile. . .
Great Danes that attacked children in El Paso County euthanized
