Where are the facts . . . and where is our national interest?

I don’t see any benefit for the United States in attacking Syria. [Disclaimer, to avoid misunderstanding: I despise Assad. He is a brutal, terrorist-supporting thug.] Assad is less active in attacking the United States or Israel than any of his viable opposition leaders, all of whom are worse terrorists. We can either topple Assad, and end up with someone far worse, or we can allow him to win and finally end the Syrian civil war. My vote? Get completely out of Syria, and let Assad win.

Bingo. No one likes Assad, but no one should like the Saudis either, for exactly the reasons you cited. But what comes after him, would be far worse.
