Trump handled it perfectly but some just will never be satisfied he’s doing the right thing...
People like you who know nothing about other people generally make uninformed assumptions. I never forget 911 happened. I am in Afghanistan now. I just think that if people knew at the outset that the plan was to go to Afghanistan and Iraq and spend as much as we have in time, blood and treasure as we did with the results that we have had, nobody would have supported it. The last thing we need now is to get involved in another middle east war we have no idea how to end properly. People like you forget that if we had not played with regime change in Lybia, Iraq or Syria in the first place, things would likely be better in all 3 places now. I think we should call Syria a win now and leave. I couldn’t care less if everybody in Syria gasses each other to death.
They DID know at the time. Bush was very upfront about what he wanted to do and most supported him. Turning those nations into a Western-friendly democracies was a noble and worthy goal but it didn't work.
What you want to do is go back in hindsight and lecture everyone about how smart you are. But, most people like you agreed with Bush at the time.
Drink decaffeinated coffee or lay off the amphetamines. We're not going to war in Syria. You're being an alarmist by implying that Trump would fight a war in Syria.
when you bomb and laugh rockets it’s an act of war and even though you have the upper hand any response would be legitimate by russia or syria or together. Iran could instigate an attack on US in the middle east using a client terrorist group or other country.
This is the risk you take and when they do response your ass is fighting off alligators.
lastyl, WTH are we doing over there in the first place we have been wrong since 2003. “When will they ever learn?”
Are you military or a DoD contractor? I say this as a 31 year, still active duty member of the military who has been there understanding OPSEC and knowing you probably shouldnt be putting that out as OSINT for any number of reasons...unless your a contract cook. Which, of course, then nobody will care who you are or why youre there.
Pearls before swine...
Damn near everyone whos deployed feels the same. My last tour made up my mind. There are no good actors in the entire region. At this point, I dont trust even Israel or our own commands. The costs are incalculable and there is still no end in sight. I think Trump is trying to do the right thing, but every one of his advisors are corrupt. Its inevitable when we are supporting corrupt tyrants. Assad is a murderous bastard, but so are all the rest. The Arab Spring was engineered by Obama and the result has been catastrophic. It would have been better that we never set foot in the Middle East.
History is rife with examples from the British to the Russians, yet we blunder on wasting our lives and degrading our capabilities without reason or plan. Our allies screw us constantly, and we go back for more. The big picture is desperate and we lack the stomach to do whats required. Since a real victory is untenable, we need to get out.
Bush told everybody it would be a 17 year thing? I don’t remember that. What I do remember is Bush speaking against nation building when he was running for office, that was before he went all in on nation building. I realize that we need to deal with what we have started. I just don’t think get a warm and fuzzy about starting more. Besides, Trump did say he would get us out of Syria.
I am not implying anything. We are already at war in Syria. I hope it does not escalate further in this case. Trump did say, not imply, that he would get the US out of Syria. I would like to see him do so.
How do you want your eggs?
It can be argued that the American troops are involved in former Syrian territory that has been liberated. The liberated territory is in effect a new but unnamed nation populated by Sunni Arabs and Kurds. It extends into lands that were formerly Iraq as well.
The missile attacks were against the Assad regime in the remaining portions of Syria
I hope somebody who matters actually has a plan for getting out at some point in time.
Going to war to overthrow Assad would be a mistake. Destroying ISIS was and is absolutely necessary to the security of this nation.
Trump ran on destroying ISIS. Rand Paul lost because he's foreign policy was indistinguishable from Obama's.
I don't remember that. You're making things up. Bush was warning about leaving Iraq too early as late as 2007 and he was right about that.
The Iraq had 90% support. It was near 100% among Republicans and conservatives. Pat Buchanan is the only prominent conservative that opposed it.
It's easy to be self-righteous in hindsight.
“So what youre saying is that its stupid to trust in the career intelligence professionals that number in the 1000s and have direct contact with the POTUS..
... when I could be smart and see what everyone on Youtube has to say ?
******************************************************************
You do understand that our intelligence agencies are infested with MANY Valerie Plame & Joe Wilson types?”
So yes, that’s what you’re saying.
Only after ISIS was eradicated. And, absolutely made the destruction of ISIS a prominent campaign promise.
Conservatives and Republicans absolutely believe in peace through strength and strong military action when it is in our national security.
And, yes, what we did in Afghanistan was absolutely the right thing to do, including staying there and having a base of operation to fight Islamic terrorism that threatened and continues to threaten the nation.
That sounds about right.
