When my son was in college a few years ago, I was stunned at the number of classmates who expected to get really rare high end jobs straight out of college. Their parents encourage this behavior. No wonder they think they’re too good for ordinary work.
This is so true. We have a young lady working for us. She asked for a 25% pay raise after 3 months of employment and was stunned she didn't get it. She still complains she's underpaid, even though she knew before she even interviewed for the position exactly what the pay would be. She's been here 9 months and is now on a crusade for weekly staff meetings at the local coffee shop, with drinks paid for by the company and "staff retreats" every month, by which she means going to a movie or out to lunch all on the company dime and during work hours. She honestly believes this is going to "boost morale" and "build us into a stronger team." She doesn't understand why our supervisor won't let her take her laptop and go work in the local coffee shop two afternoons a week, instead of working in her office. I think her suggestions look like taking every opportunity to slack off on company time.
