I have a 7 year old. What advice do you give to conservative parents? I’d welcome any suggestions!
Two things helped with my nine year old when he was seven: Little League (learn that other children and teams are better, the scoreboard doesn’t lie) and strict control over television/internet viewing (especially to reduce the amount of snarky know it all youngsters on programs aimed at them).

He is part of a little league and does lose a lot (not a great sportsman). And we have no cable in our house, which he's allowed to watch an hour of selected cartoon DVDs on Sunday if he was good.
Chores he does his bed and organize his room, and, take out the garbage and clean the bathrooms (alternatively with us)
