Four years ago, 32-year-old Sam Sally left her hometown in Indiana for a vacation in Turkey.
The family went from a mundane life of sports cars and a delivery business to joining Islamic State fighters and seeing their son become the face of ISIS propaganda against America.
During the trip, Sally claims her husband, Moussa, duped her and her children -- Matthew, 10; Sarah, 5; and her two youngest who were born in the so-called ISIS caliphate -- into joining Islamic State militants in Syria. Sally said, "All I saw was a bunch of drug-using thugs that came from their countries who had no place."
Now out of Raqqa and in Syrian Kurdish custody, Sally must explain how her husband died fighting for ISIS and prove her innocence to U.S. authorities if she ever hopes to return home with her four kids.
Sally said she had no choice as her husband became abusive, bought teenage Yazidi sex slaves and made her 10-year-old son appear in an ISIS propaganda videos.
She knows some people will not believe her.
"They can think whatever they want to believe, but they've never been put in a situation to make a decision like that."
At the ISIS border crossing, she said she faced an impossible choice: her husband grabbed Sarah while Sally had Matthew.
Sally said, "The position I was in was to stay there with my son or watch my daughter leave with my husband and I had to make a decision. I thought -- like I said -- we could just walk across the border and we could come back again."
She chose to keep the family together.

Sort of reminds me of the story of Betty Mahmoody and her Iranian husband.
Lesson: girls, don’t marry Muslims.
“CNNs own article on their website blames the culture of male dominated marriage and ISIS. fight the patriarchy
Blame Islam. Nothing else is at fault.
for colluding with Russia?
Reminds me of the movie with Sally Field where she went to Iran with her Iranian husband who became a crazy Islamic after being back around his family. She and her daughter got out, at least in the movie.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Someday maybe people will learn actions have consequences. Through my “white privilege” I learned a long time ago I wouldn’t be bailed out for my stupid choices. I tried not to make stupid choices after the first few.
“Sally had the choice not to marry a dude named Moussa.”
She probably dated a bunch of Metrosexuals first and then Moussa, who actually seemed like a REAL MAN. That’s pretty much what drives women to these types.
She also probably ignored the advice of everyone close to her to stay away from him.
I feel bad for the kids. But as for Sam Sally, well, you make your choices, and you live with them. Radical Islamic men aren’t exactly role models when it comes to respectful treatment of women.
Someone fax me a crying towel.
Her first error was a husband named MOUSSA.
but they’ve never been put in a situation to make a decision like that.”

You put yourself in that position, first by marrying a muslim, and then by going with him to Turkey and then to Syria.
My sympathy jar is completely empty.
Welcome to islam, Sally. It’s acceptable to lie to advance the “religion”.
Even when he brought his little teen playthings home, raping them in front of you, you chose to stay.
When he put the AK in your son's hands to spew hatred and threats against your (former) country, you stayed.
So stay. You and your cute little jihadi family all belong there.
Plenty of room in Gitmo.
“You and your family are no longer welcome in the greatest country on earth!”
Does Linda Sarsour think this is cool? How aout that al Choudery guy? al Baghdaddy? McCain? Pelousi? So many dhimmi’s so few red pills.
Isis kills infidels. Don't know about Linda, but CNN wouldn't write this sympathetic piece if there wasn't a market. I've checked a few other articles, none of them indicate this "American" family consists of citizens. I wonder.
