Stay out of the tall grass, especially in spring and summer.

Ticks climb the leaves, wait for a mammal to pass by, then climb on board.

They don't usually transfer directly from mammal to mammal, so you probably won't get one from petting your dog.

I'm not an expert, I could be wrong, and Asian ticks could be different...

Some people have been scared away from bug repellent; any risk is worth avoiding Lyme Disease. Apply it generously, and just make sure to shower within a reasonable time. I’ve never had issues with ticks when using “Deep Woods Off”, and have had plenty of problem without it.
