What do the three pictured flags have in common? The first is the flag of the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics). Estimates are that 40,000,000 to 60,000,000 people lost their lives under the rule of Stalin's iron fist. The third is the Chinese flag. Everyday hard-working people did not fare well in Mao's China either. Anywhere from 49,000,000 to 78,000,000 died under Mao's communist society. In the middle is the flyer that teachers' unions distributed to Colorado teachers with their Walk-Ins tool-kit encouraging Englewood's teachers to protest and walk out of class recently. Additionally, the teachers' unions are organizing teachers all over Colorado to take a flex (paid) day to protest at the state Capitol.
Many of us have friends who immigrated from Russia and China. We treasure those relationships. They came to America to flee the bully tactics of oppression, tyranny and censorship. They immigrated to America to pursue life, liberty and their personal happiness.
It is shocking that the National Education Association, the Colorado Education Association and a variety of local education associations (teachers unions) are mirroring themselves with the above human rights oppressors, Russia and China. Take a moment to let the similarity of these images sink in.
All three of these entities use/used force, manipulation of information and bully tactics to push forward agendas that stifle the creativity, innovation and prosperity of each individual person. While union leaders claim that these walk outs are organic, make no mistake, these teacher union organized events are pushing forward legislation at the state house and local school board level to limit educational choices and options for families.

The first place to look is PERA (Public Employee Retirement Association). While PERA was put in place for teachers' retirement, it has become nothing more than a legalized Ponzi Scheme.

Stopped at a light one day in Lexington, MA. In front of me was a lady on her phone. Her car had several stickers. One said “NEA.” The other said, “Won’t it be great when teachers have all the money they need and the air force [sic] has to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber?” Lexington borders Hanscom AFB.
Was it a Prius?
So does the NEA flyer have pics of the Soviet and Red Chinese flags? The column seems to imply so. I understand the similarity with the “fist” flag but still, it’s disingenuous to include those nations’ flags in the article if the flyer didn’t include them.
The state’s most powerful radio station (KOA) has a woman talk show host (Mandy Connell) in the afternoons. Her subject yesterday was this teacher’s union fiasco. Mandy is formidable and very well prepared.
She was respectful of the profession and went after the so-called “reasoning” presented by the “educators”.
She sliced, diced, pureed, and converted into mush the laughable arguments posted by the teachers.
It was such a pleasure listening to her. On a side note, ‘twould be interesting listening to Mandy interview the Hillabeast. Talk about an unequal contest.
No wonder why only 37 percent of 12th-graders tested proficient or better in reading, and only 25 percent did so in math. = Nationally.

Agreed. All the flags are red, that's pretty much it. That's a weak premise on which to base an article.

I have never met an “educator” who didn’t whine that they underpaid, overworked and unappreciated . Homeschool. Fire these union thugs and bums.

It's a power grab by the NEA.
The Douglas County School Board approved a resolution opposing Amendment 66, a nearly $1 billion income tax hike .. versus the Colorado teachers union, which is working feverishly for the public education tax..
Adding more fuel to the fire is the school board’s decision in 2013 to end the practice of using taxpayer monies to fund the local and national teachers union.

Mandy Connell is great, KOA 850 from 1300-1600. So is Michael Brown on KNUS 630 at 1600.
As a teacher I can only wince. The teacher’s association, (remember many states are not teacher unions, they are right to work states and cannot strike), it’s are so liberal painful.
I teach science in an urban high school. I always tell my liberal friends to visit my classroom for ONE day you will forever be a conservative. A minority of teachers are conservative, but with gestapo tactics we are not a very vocal group and are vastly underrepresented.
I knew going in I’d never make a lot of money, but after 27 years teaching in a STEM field I’d think I’d qualify to break the 60K mark, which I don’t.
Most of this is the RESOURCE personnel in the teaching district bureaucracy. I’d say 50% of the “educators” never set foot in the classroom, and the real teachers continually do battle with no support; from students, parents, taxpayers, administrators, press, etc.
As for retirement, I’ve paid 10% of my income into the pension for 27 years. The district matches that 10%. It’s defined benefit, but don’t think for a minute that I will retire rich. At 30 years I will receive 60% of my highest 3 years salary, and I have to pay my own health care, not the myth that most retired teachers have paid health care.
As I see things, this retirement pension will not survive in it’s present form, thus I have no plans to retire anytime soon.
As for pay. You get what you pay for. Most of the good teachers, like myself, are dying out. Imagine being in classrooms of 35 students, trying to do science labs and most kids don’t care, (urban school remember). Compiled with being; babysitter, cop, counselor, negotiator, social worker, secretary, forced substitute when younger teachers are “sick”, etc. on and on. Yes, most new teachers start at 40-45K, which is 15 less then I make with 27 years experienced. They come in, play on their phones, bitch and moan about how difficult it is, teach for 4 years and get student loans paid off and then move on. Leaving us old guys holding the bag.
If my teachers ever had the balls to strike, I would in a heartbeat. Again I’m conservative, so this is contrary to my beliefs, but I’ve had enough. You taxpayers want education to be a service industry, just like Fastfood, and it is, believe me education in America is just like a service industry. We warehouse kids so they don’t roam the streets and steal from you while you work.
I should be paid at least a cop’s salary.
Need fewer Administrative positions that suck up teacher’s pay ?

I see the same at the university where I teach as an engineering adjunct instructor. Armies of administrators that do not teach but rather enforce the New Morality or, at best, deal with the social diseases of our day.
As for pay, I bet that's not so much an issue if you had engaged parents that raised respectful and diligent children. My guess is that hiking your pay by 50% would only make you think about a better retirement - away from a job you still wouldn't be happy in.
The raised and closed fist on the flyer is blatantly inspired by classic Communist propaganda.
I think the comparison is apt.
