To your point about no grounds....1/2 of the populace knows that and will be pissed with pitchforks and maybe even guns. A key point maybe the realization from the indies that its wrong.
The pressure we put on our R congresspersons should suffice to keep every republican -- including Trump haters-- to beat back impeachment proceedings. IMHO, not many indies would go for it either, but Indies and the congress people they support could be important.
Given DjT's record I don't see Republicans losing the house. Economy, border, NoKorea....it could just as easily be a red wave....and predict it will.

That's likely why the President spoke about it at the rally. To fire up his base.
It seems to be about theater and popularity and nothing more. If they can take his base away from him then they can impeach him and nullify his presidency.
He is making a reasonable effort to save Democrats from themselves because of the fury that will reign down upon them if their soft coup becomes a hot war. President Trump obviously prefers a peaceful resolution to the treasonous abuse of power that has been perpetrated against him and his supporters who elected him. Democrats don’t have enough sense to save themselves from themselves. Trump is not going to be removed from office, but his enemies are dropping like flies.
