The LDS Church is ending its relationship with the Boy Scouts of America. The expiration date for the remarkably robust, 105-year alliance is Dec. 31, 2019, according to a joint statement released Tuesday night by BSA and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The decision by LDS leaders is part of a broader restructuring of the church’s programs for all Mormon children ages 8 to 18.

Boy Scouts as I experienced it hasn’t existed for many decades.

Total devastation. They’ve become a major negative influence.

Its not foolish to remove your children from such a totally negative organization.

Any child in scouts now has no hope whatsoever.

Their minds will be completely destroyed.

Our CUB scout pack (not everyone is talking about the little boys - they think of the real “Boy Scouts”) had a whole passel of girls introduced the other week at Raingutter Regata.

I don’t mind girls so much, as breaking tradition. The biggest problem with girls showing up in non-girl things is it’s a sign of what is happening in the wrong direction. Unfortunately, maybe it’ll end up being as watered-down and liberal-promoting as the Girl Scouts.

They should fully change the name if they will have girls.

I DO fully mind the rolling over for f ags and trannies.

Notice they bent to homos before they bent to females. That’s really pathetic. If you’re going to allow a he-she, why not let the real girls in?

Yeah, that is not at all the classic Pioneer Girls/Kids. I was at least aware of Pioneer Girls, just as I was Campfire Girls and the GS/BS. Would not recognize Lutheran specifically.

I was looking at some of that Trail groups stuff, and went through the present curriculum of the Pioneers, and am familiar with much of the Boy Scout stuff, and it seems that theres an awful lot of hippy Gaia garbage leaking in to all of these orgs.

We shouldnt be too surprised at what its degenerated into.

The scouting concept was huge back in the days of BSAs founding and there were a huge number of scouting type organizations with groups like the more militaristic and more patriotic American Boy Scouts (United States Boy Scouts) being a prime competitor. The BSA had the backing of popular individuals like Teddy Roosevelt who felt that there had been a general decline in manliness and felt that such an organization would be a good antidote. After BSA was given its title 36 charter by congress it immediately began attacking and or absorbing other scouting organizations.

Much of the religious, "manly", and militaristic/patriotic elements of these other organizations remained until the BSA was really the only scouting organization left standing. Slowly these things have been or are in the process of being removed by the BSA ever since. These things are bound together in western culture and to remove them is to remove the originally stated purpose of the organization.

The past culture experienced by all of us involved in various scouting type programs was one of morally guided patriotism. The structure and training, especially in groups like the mini-commandos I was apparently with, left us all capable defenders of the US both in both the spiritual and physical aspects. Todays BSA is ship seemingly adrift and without purpose being weaponized against our past culture.

There is the one major failing with all of these new groups, especially the faith based groups. These ideas cant be separated and to focus on one element of this cultural crisis is to abandon our patriotic post.

That is so sad, to read this historical descriptive summary of what happened. We’ve gone from “rugged individualism” to “nanny state dependent”. It makes me wonder in a few generations if there will be any who will remember the skills and create a revival of sorts. So sad. Thanks for the background, GM.

I am not familiar with the Trail Life Program, twenty years removed from the pitter-patter, not that I would hear it now (har har). Will check it out. Outdoor proficiency is essential education in my book.

I certainly have nothing against Mormons or even their church.
Having young people reared with their — interpretation of Christianity — without ever having it challenged or corrected, well it is not serving them.
