Mattis: U.S. Left Nuclear Deal Due to Iranian Military Aggression, Missile Testing
By: John Grady May 9, 2018 2:59 PM
Defense Secretary James Mattis stressed it was Tehrans aggressive military behavior from ballistic missile testing to its intervention in the Syrian civil war to financially and militarily supporting terrorists to threatening maritime commerce across the Middle East that factored into President Donald Trumps decision this week to walk away from the nuclear agreement with Iran.
Testifying Wednesday before the Senate Appropriations defense subcommittee, he said of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Irans nuclear program, we found it inadequate for the long-term effort to bring Iran back into compliance with international norms of behavior.
We will continue to work alongside our allies and partners to ensure that Iran can never acquire a nuclear weapon, and will work with others to address the range of Irans malign influence, Mattis said.
In recent weeks, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel met with Trump to urge him to remain in the deal but work with them in improving it. Britains Prime Minister Theresa May took the same position in writing Trump.
In addition to those nations, Russia and China also participated in the negotiations and signed. There was no vote in the Senate to ratify the agreement as a treaty when the deal was reached in July 2015.
At the hearing, Mattis added that the administration has been in office since January 2017, so this was not a hasty decision. By re-imposing the sanctions that were in place when the agreement was signed, we now have the opportunity to move forward in strengthening any future agreement with Tehran over its nuclear program.

I’m just going to go with what my president said, mmmkay, Matt.
If Obama wanted a deal that was binding, he could have made a nuclear treaty. He didn’t. So tell Obama and everyone else to stop whining.

Ok, I feel I am bizarro land. My government which has illegally invaded Syria, and is building military bases there says the sovereign country cannot allow in an ally who offered to come to it’s defense.
Meanwhile, the Country which has illegally invaded that Country finances, and gives weapons to terrorists, aka, Al Qaeda, and Isis, and invites the Country which financed the 9/11 attacks in the US to come be a peacekeeping force in the invaded Country.
When did we invade Syria?
Yep. I remember Iran firing off a missle almost right after Obama’s deal with the devil was signed. A direct violation.
Iran has effectively declared war on our ally Israel, we probably should do more than just tear up a non-signed agreement.
Was Iran’s taking of US military hostages a violation of the “treaty” that isn’t a treaty?
