Bottom line, regardless of who is doing it, and yes a republican would be slammed, the point is that this is a distraction, a pimple on the ass of time. Trump supporters take this for what it is and that is fascist democrat tactics meant to sway some, appeal to their juvenile base and otherwise distract attention from the great things Trump is doing.
Whether or not it would be treated the same is exactly the argument they want to generate instead of putting attention on efforts to destroy their attempted takeover of the country.
There are much bigger issues on which to focus.
