The same thing will happen if they use chicanery to undermine the Electoral College. They day will come when they wind up losing an election due to precisely that.
It is very difficult to change the Constitution, so I doubt they will be able to do that any time soon....................
Something like Connecticut taking away the population right to vote for presidential candidates. Their electorate will go to whomever the rest of the country votes for.
