His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, announced 100 new appointments to the Order of Canada just before the start of the new year.

Peter Dalglish (LLB’83, LLD’08) is among the 75 new Members of the Order (C.M.) to receive one of Canada’s highest honours. Residing in London, Ont., Dalglish was appointed “for his efforts to alleviate child poverty worldwide, notably by establishing and leading Street Kids International.”

Dalglish studied at Dalhousie Law School (now the Schulich School of Law) and earned the law school’s Weldon Award for Unselfish Public Service in 1989 “for his creative and constructive efforts in international humanitarian relief efforts in the Third World.” He also received an honorary degree from the university in 2008 “for his visionary work helping children around the world.”

“I am delighted to recognize these new recipients of the Order of Canada in this milestone year,” said the Governor General in a press release. “Besides marking Canada’s 150th anniversary, 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the Order. So let’s be inspired by the examples set by these remarkable Canadians and use this occasion to build a smarter and more caring country in which every individual can succeed to the greatest extent possible.”
