The Senate will take up a bill that would allow more veterans to see doctors outside the Veterans Affairs system, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., announced Thursday.
The legislation passed the House Wednesday 347-70 and has the support of President Trump. It would allow more veterans to go outside the VA healthcare system and use private-sector doctors when VA medical centers can't provide appointments within a month, veterans have to drive more than 40 minutes to access care, or when care is determined inadequate by VA leaders.
The Senate next week will take up and pass the VA MISSION Act, and send it to the presidents desk before Memorial Day," McConnell said. "This bicameral, bipartisan bill contains significant reforms to the Department of Veterans Affairs which will increase and strengthen the healthcare and community care options available to Americas veterans.

This would fulfill one of Trump’s MAJOR campaign promises!
True, and be a major benefit to our vets.
I thought this one month thing was already in effect? I think it is at the VA around here
Same here. My husband goes to the VA. It used to be better; he could go local since the VA is a good drive but, now, he has to go to the VA. If there is anything urgent, he can just go to the local hospital with no problem.
Amen.
Common sense. Wouyldn’t it be nice if a vet could go to his doctor of many years....who knows the family etc etc..
The only solution to VA problems as well as all the other alphabet departments in the federal government for that matter is for Trump to rescind JFKs and Nixons Executive Orders allowing them to organize. Right now, not even the POTUS can fire a federal employee.
Executive Order 10988 is a United States presidential executive order issued by President John F. Kennedy on January 17, 1962 that recognized the right of federal employees to collective bargaining. This executive order was a breakthrough for public sector workers, who were not protected under the 1935 Wagner Act.
Passage of the executive order forestalled the legislative Rhodes-Johnson Union Recognition bill, which would have given more power to federal employee unions, possibly creating a union shop arrangement.[1][2]
Executive Order 10988 was effectively replaced by President Richard Nixon’s Executive Order 11491 in 1969.
I detest the unions, but cannot say so at work. The unions foster an attitude of workers vs. management, which makes real challenges when trying to foster an atmosphere of teamwork. It is ridiculous when I have to seek legal advice before having certain kinds of interactions with employees, because I know that they will complain to the union about me and I need to know I am on solid ground.
To be fair, most employees embrace the teamwork concept. There are just a handful who run off complaining to the unions when they don’t get their way.
Yet again! Promises kept!
But they will now have to ‘earn’ advances and rewards by the work they do! Trumps ‘merit’ system. No longer across the board.
Trumps moving things from just an executive order to legislative so it sticks from being undone.
