If we turned this thread into a debate over AR vs. shotgun as better at distances of 75 feet and less, I suspect there would be as many shotgun advocates as AR advocates, except shotguns with OO buck are a lot less sexy than ARs. That totally supports your point because the left is trying to demonize ARs simply because they are black and based on a military design, not because they are any more lethal in moderate range environments. Hence, the whole idea is to familiarize people with the “legitimacy” of trying to outlaw one kind of gun to make it easier to outlaw all guns.
