I’ve always thought Trump could survive firing Rosenstein much more readily than he could survive firing Sessions. Trump appears to be making a case for gross insubordination. He will keep making demands and Rosenstein will either comply or—hopefully—the curtain will finally fall on RR’s treacherous anti-Trump show.
Sessions has threatened to quit if the President fires Rosenslime.
He doesn’t have to fire anyone they are all firing themselves. They will be in such exposed positions they won’t be able to continue.

According to DiGenova a few days ago, he said WH Chief of Staff Kelley warned both Rosenstein and Sessions their jobs are not secure. I’ve always predicted in any case Rosenstein will be gone by January of next year or sooner.
