Back in the 90’s here in SoCal, cops had a shootout with bad guys using full auto AK’s. The cops went to a nearby gunstore to get guns with enough oomph to compete with the bad guys.
I remember that.I think they were finally taken down by shots from under a car to the lower legs and ankles.I believe they committed suicide shortly thereafter.
You’re talking about the North Hollywood shootout. The officers went to the gun store to get hunting rifles (.308, .30-30, .30-06) because the bad guys were wearing soft body armor that could defeat pistol calibers. But in the end, one guy shot himself in the head and the other guy was taken out by SWAT (who were training at the police academy and wearing shorts with body armor) using a 12 gauge shotgun on the unprotected ankles. After that event, many police departments added the AR15 to their arsenal.
