Yep, dead folks have won before. Denying the person listed on the ballot and automatically handing those votes to someone else would be disenfranchising - yes?

Death of a candidate should trigger a special election, but in many places, the party apparatchiks get to decide who wins the election. Fortunately, fewer and fewer voters are voting a straight ticket anymore. I wonder how many states even allow that these days.
