Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - A Rochester man was acquitted Thursday on charges that he tried to kill a Rochester Police officer in April 2016.

Silvon Simmons, 35, was convicted of one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. He was acquitted on a second count, as well as one count of attempted aggravated murder of a police officer.

A grand jury voted to indict Simmons in April 2016 on all three of those charges.

Hard to figure out what is going on because of the amateur writing. Please, they are not sure if they hit the guy 3 or 4 times? He lived, he was taken to the hospital (I presume). I see the officer was not charged, which begs the question why would that be a question if he was shot at. I suspect there is a lot more to this story. Journalism standards are scrapping the bottom of the barrel in Rochester.

What do any of us here know aside from this article? The grand jury would never be allowed to hear, for example, any suggestion that the second guy who got out of the car, who was never found, was the shooter. You got a guy in custody, you never find the second guy, you throw the book at the first guy as a matter of policy.

Actually, do we have a date for this article? Here’s something from February about this acquittal.

Lots more detail. Some hinky use of “Shotspotter” data.

My next-door neighbor to my automotive restoration shop in Charlevoix Michigan was charged with attempted murder for driving a Chevy Dually pickup truck at Charlevoix County Sheriff’s Deputies as they were subduing his son on a DUI charge. He was acquitted on the attempted murder charge, but found guilty on assault with a deadly weapon charge. he was sentenced to eight months to fifteen years for his conviction.
