While waiting for their cases to be heard – a process that can take two years or longer – asylum seekers who make it to America are temporarily held in Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities, then released into the general population...In fiscal 2017, the Department of Homeland Security approved 403,000 work permits for migrants based on pending asylum claims...Families get taxpayer-funded medical care, plus state assistance, as well as federal tax-related subsidies, including the child credit and the Earned Income Tax Credit.

Probably 99.8% of them are gaming the system. THEY made their countries into shitholes; let’s not let them bring their shithole attitudes and ideologies here.

Even if they get turned down for “asylum” these illegal aliens have had a good run on American tax payers money...money that they don’t have to pay back...

Why do these people who are not even Americans get all these freebies ???

IMMIGRANTS don’t get anything...

Where’s the help for American veterans ???

Are these special work permits forever? Or do we have a population of illegals who have been longer than their special work permits allos? Sounds like we need a special holding place for these people. Don’t let them work in this country; send a detailed colonel their home country. Non payment can be reimbursed by reducing and payments, or seize wire payments to those countries to cover the cost.

Re: “Are these special work permits forever?”

In theory, they are valid until an asylum seeker gets a final notice of removal.

Various appeals and delays can stretch the process out for years.

About 65% of asylum requests are rejected by the courts.

One problem - I can’t recall if it is mentioned in this link - is that there is no formal, consistent policy for turning off all the government benefits that accrue to asylum seekers after they exhaust all their appeals.

It is really going to require Congress to close some of these loopholes.

They are churning over some immigration proposals this week.

Some elements are trying to rush through a deal now, that avoids the long term reforms needed, like a merit-based system, and restricting this widespread amnesty claim abuse.

Funny how the gubmint can track down, to the penny, what every taxpayer owes but can’t find the spigot to shut off how and to whom it flows out.

Re: “It is really going to require Congress to close some of these loopholes.”

The only huge legal loophole is “Family Reunification,” which allows an unlimited annual quota for family members of legal immigrants already in the USA.

Also - maybe - ending “Anchor Babies,” which may require an explicit Supreme Court decision, or a Constitutional Amendment.

Trying to close those issues legislatively will be almost impossible because of a Senate filibuster, or, because of a presidential veto, if a Democrat is in the White House.

Almost everything else - universal E-Verify, mass deportation of DACA kids, refugee quotas, work visa quotas - every one of those can be implemented or changed by Executive Order, because there are already laws that clearly apply to them.

Trump has the Executive authority to start deporting DACA kids any day he wants to - the "D" in DACA stands for "Deferred Prosecution."

Unfortunately, Trump has made it quite clear that he is only going to deport criminal DACAs.

.
“Anchor Babies” are imaginary.

The 14th amendment specifically demands that parents be here legally (under the authority) before children born here are elligible for citizenship.

Re: “Anchor Babies” are imaginary.

Unfortunately, when they turn 18, they become very real voters - most of them Democrats.

The last figure I saw was 4.5 million Anchor Babies under 18 years of age.
