A prominent veterans group is urging President Trump to press North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during their summit on returning the remains of thousands of U.S. troops who have been missing for more than six decades.

About 5,300 service members who fought in the North during the Korean War have never been accounted for, and past arrangements with North Korea to recover and return the remains to families fizzled, according to a letter sent to Trump last week written by Keith Harman, the Veterans of Foreign Wars commander-in-chief.

I wonder how CNN will spin this as a negative for Trump.

While I of course sympathize, that's not what this summit is about. We can't go off on POW/MIA, human rights or other tangents. This is about North Korea giving up their nuclear weapons and missiles. PERIOD. Once relations are back on track we can talk about ancillary issues.

Right. There will be time in the future to settle this if tomorrow’s meeting goes well. Trump should focus on peace in Korea and leave the rest for later.

The point of this summit is to make sure millions more of our troops and civilians are not missing in the future.

I really do care about MIAs, but we have to secure the present and future before this chance passes by.

I am hopeful we’re looking at an NK thaw, that will expand in many desired directions.

Agreed.

It is also unlikely that the Norks are in a position to say, “Sure, here they are” at this point, even if they wanted to.

He can press all he wants but he won't get anywhere without offering a Quid Pro Quo.
