Military presence is a zero sum game.

Trump didn't suggest withdrawing. Stopping war games is not withdrawing.

The Rods of God Trump used discreetly in 2H/2017 already showed Kim what the US can do without even engaging any of our traditional forces on or around the Korean peninsula.

You’re right. This is a very minimum olive branch and makes the NK feel like they are getting something. It’s not hard to resume war games.

Did Trump say that?
Thank you.

Good, this whole thing will save us $$$ and NOT at expense of safety. Trump and Kelly are NOT stupid. They know our capability. Such rehearsals will take place elsewhere to keep Pakistan, Russia, China in check.

Here, take a quick lesson in realpolitik from Wikileaks:

Have you seen what Wikileaks previously disclosed re: Hillary’s comments in her speech to GS about Kim’s disinterest in being China’s puppet? (She offered that perspective with harsh disapproval of Kim for it, of course.)

Next scheduled war games are not until next year.

POTUS gave up nothing.

There were exercises scheduled for August. They were to concentrate on defending South Korea from attack.

Nonsense!

Our troops & ships aren’t going anywhere. They’ve been doing war-games for months now. You assertion is fallacious at best.

And what is the U.S. getting in return?

And what is the U.S. getting in return?

Denuclearization of N. Korea and a nuclear threat that could strike America and destabilize the world, not bad.

This
Al lot of these war games is joint Command Post exercises - that part can still be exercised
War games can be conducted elsewhere just as many regional war plan scenarios are exercised elsewhere
The more access the free world gets to North Korea the more we know about them, anyway, and the better for all

If Trump and Kelly know our capabilities then why waste money on war games against Russia, China, and Pakistan?

NK promised to denuke. If they don’t simply let the games begin. I’m sure they’re not going to toss out the plans.

You have to start somewhere.

As Reagan was fond of saying, “Trust but verify.”

The POTUS would not have revised these exercise plans unless the ROKs were in full coordination and agreement

Yeah, well it's pretty clear from early reports that the South Koreans weren't aware Trump was going to do this.

NK promised to denuke.

And North Korea's track record on keeping promises is absolutely wonderful, isn't it?

As Reagan was fond of saying, “Trust but verify.”

Reagan verified first, then agreed.

Toss in a pony and your day is made. How about seeing North Korea actually take some steps towards denuclearization before rewarding them? Just a thought.

Speaking of ‘correct’, here are the things you said a month ago. Seems you were not ‘correct’.

“There’s nothing to talk about. Kim will never give up his nukes. He’d be dead in 6 months if he did. “

“If they want to fix blame they should look in a mirror. It was stupid for Trump to even schedule this meeting. There’s no talking to North Korea. I guess every President wants to re-learn that lesson for himself. “
