Trump is betting Senate Dems will filibuster either bill. Makes me nervous that the Dems might pull a switcheroo and vote yes on the Ryan bill, but I’ve learned to trust Trump.
He’s trying to save the house by letting the squishy moderates vote for the Ryan bill. Maybe he’s willing to turn around and veto the Ryan bill if it unexpectedly makes it through the Senate.
Remember that televised cabinet meeting when Trump said he’d support some immigration plan or the other that Ann Coulter and most everybody here hated? Next day he repudiated his clear statement of support. Drove media/Dems nuts.
In Trump I Trust.
It’s a good bet the Democrats will kill the bill. Trump can then go to the public & say that they don’t want to fix immigration.
We shall see. Tuesday is a long time in politics.
If that scenario happens, he could well end up with his veto overridden. Again, I don’t like this game at all—and the squishes could advocate for something on their own, without this game of “chicken” being played.
