Trump digs in amid uproar on zero tolerance policy
The Hill ^ | 06/18/18 | Rafael Bernal and Mike Lillis

President Trump on Monday showed no signs of budging from his “zero tolerance” border policy as a growing number of Republicans criticized it for separating children from their families.

The Trump administration is digging in, defending its stance while many Republicans on Capitol Hill are worried that the White House’s policy will become a huge election year issue. The immigration story has dominated headlines over the last several days and fractured the GOP.

Trump is scheduled to meet House Republicans Tuesday evening to discuss two GOP immigration bills that are expected to hit the floor this week.

At that meeting, Trump will face a conference intent on keeping its majority while grappling with immigration, possibly the most divisive issue among Republicans. But the top issue on the table won’t be citizenship for so-called Dreamers, the core issue that prompted the two bills. Rather, it will be the more than 2,000 children separated from their parents by border agents after entering the country illegally.

It’s a new complication for two bills — one a conservative measure proposed by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), the other a deal between Republican centrists and GOP leaders — that already faced a tough road to become law.

“Instead of talking about that we’re talking about this issue down at the border,” said Chris Chmielenski, deputy director of NumbersUSA, a grass-roots political organization that advocates for reduced immigration.

Whose “uproar”? The media is literally writing a hundred fake outrage articles about it, and then citing their own B.S. as proof of a widespread “uproar.”

Democrats want to win the mid-terms and they will reject any solution that takes the heat off the GOP.

There isn’t going to be a compromise immigration bill in an election year.

That will happen when pigs can fly.

Trump knows full well that his base couldn’t care less about the opinions of Laura Bush, Mitt Romney, Juan McCain, and the rest of the RINOs.

There is a huge section of the GOP which is completely sold out on the border.

Completely so.

They are part of what Trump defeated.

Trump is right.

“t that meeting, Trump will face a conference intent on keeping its majority while grappling with immigration”

LOL, they want to keep their majority? Doubtful. Otherwise they would be doing conservative things, like repealing Obamacare and building the wall. Building the wall keeps families together - on the other side of it!

Go pick a random city. Ask people: What do you think should be done with people found crossing the border illegally?

You can either accept their instant answer, or provide a list of possible actions and see which one the person most agrees with.

Such as:

A) They should be returned to the country they illegally entered from immediately.

B) Be given free lodging, meals, health care, job assistance, language assistance, translated ballots, and a car.

C) Go sit in detention until a criminal background check is completed and their records including passports or other authentication documents are obtained from their birth country.

D) Just be left alone to find their own way.

Betcha that A gets the most agreements from any population, in any city, anywhere in the United States, even the most liberal enclaves you can find.

Freebies for illegals is a phantom divisor. There’s no large faction of the electorate who wants that; only people who THINK that the citizens of this country want it. They want illegals off the roads, out of their job sites, out of their schools, out of their welfare lines, out of their doctor’s offices, out of their housing markets, etc.

Why is Trump digging in? Because it’s a winning issue. How many campaign appearances did he do on his successful run for the White House featuring the victims of illegal immigration? 20? 40? More? Time and time again he solidified people into voting for him with this single issue.

So go ahead, media, go run with it all. Be sure to grab an extra side of ‘Russia hacked our election’ while you’re at it.

I’ve read they can’t be separated more than 20 days, its usually much shorter. They want to permanently come here - illegally - and can’t deal with that? Then stay out. Actually, stay out period.

The Left and the media are apparently perfectly happy if decent people suffer on both sides of the border as long as their fake and dishonest narrative can possibly damage Republicans’ changes of winning in the fall.

Every single time a news break occurs on the radio the top story is “Trump administration defends their policy of separating families at the border.” There is no such specific new policy - every single person with minor children charged with illegally crossing the border has always been separated from the children. This is not a new policy for those charged with illegally crossing the border.

If the media and others thing this is a bad policy, fine and dandy - but let’s have an honest discussion about it. I know, they’ve never done that before...but it still is maddening every time it happens...actual human beings are having their lives turned upside out of this out of control and unsecured border and nobody seems to give a crap - just how it can be used to damage political opponents. Cartels and gangs are running rampant on both sides of the border destroying families and lives through violence, theft, and murder...and nobody cares. Isn’t that the news story? Makes me sick to my stomach.

If only POTUS Trump would admit that he is a Nazi Dictator.

Today two or more Democrat Senators have used the Nazi comparison on how these poor Children are separated from the (maybe, maybe not) Parents. Diane Gun Grabber Feinstein is one of those Senators.

In other words, they think POTUS Trump must be a Nazi, right? I wonder why they just don’t come out and say it?

Like Russian collusion, Stormy Daniels and the other outrages du jour, these events are uniformly reported and agitated, almost like coordinated events.

The immigration story has dominated headlines over the last several days and fractured the GOP.

Well, maybe the GOP should unfracture itself and get behind Trump to go after the Deep State. Isn't it curious how this "separated children" hoax has pushed the Deep State FBI / DOJ corruption out of the news? What a surprise a manufactured trivial crisis has arisen at just the right moment. The fate of the nation rests on the restoration of blind justice and crushing the permanent deep state. Yet here are the Dems and MSM pushing an issue that affects a few hundred "children" -- many of whom have no relationship to the supposed "parent" with them.
