In Phoenix, we get stringy cattle out of western feed lots and like the produce, it is dried out and not up to our standards.

It's all that sun and lack of humidity. Beef cows like angus and hereford don't resist the hot climes very well. So in the colder climes, cattle tend to put on weight(fat)that ensures a good marbling in steaks. Assuming the cattle were fed well.

Feed lot cattle should be outlawed. ?It is an abomination. "Feedlot " meaning animals that were born and raised in pens, not meaning cattle being sold, transported by feedlots.

Cattle normally eat green grasses if they can find them.
