You and I think alike. I was going to include AND, OR, and XOR operations.

Won’t be fired. Can’t be fired.

Here, a teacher built up a history of dating his high school students over 20 years and they kept him on the payroll for over two more years.

Inclusion under just what kind of regime? The differently tracked ones may be in the best place if it’s a hotbed of political nonsense in the “inclusion” regime.

I disagree. Inclusion of kids in situations they CANNOT handle or thrive in is NOT good for them or the other children. If, even on medication, these children cannot function normally in class WHAT are they getting except frustration and embarrassment? Teachers shouldn’t be cruel, but kids are-and will be forever. IMO we need special schools-or at least classes- for children with learning disabilities. Expecting them to cope where they can’t is painfully obvious to them and the other children.

I don't think they should mix the slow kids with the fast ones. It is very difficult to teach a class, and be of any use to the high achievers, when the process is bogged down with slower students. Teachers need to be specially trained in order to handle the underachievers; and, their job would be much easier to do if they didn't have any overachievers in the class.

Doing away with fast/slow "tracking" of students is one of the primary reasons that our educational system is broken.

I’d also be asking who funded and conducted the “studies” as there could be copious evidence of self serving.

This is very funny. Unless of course it’s YOUR child that gets this award.

There is almost always MORE to the story than what you read online. After all, someone is trying to make a point and they have a certain perspective, etc.
I would bet the whole story is not so outrageous as this momma is trying to make it sound.

Since ADD is a recognized medical disorder, it’s probably not a good idea for a teacher to give such an award. Maybe this child has never been diagnosed as having ADD, so it is truly an attempt at humor by the teacher. But if the child is on meds or has ever been on meds for ADD, then the teacher made a mistake.

Parents are very sensitive about some things. Children can be sensitive one minute and not the next, so you have to be sensitive to their sensitivities. lol

I wonder what the child’s other awards were.

I sub in schools, usually in the same classes over and over again. I get to know the students over time. I would be hard pressed to limit an ADD award to one student in every single class! But really, keeping awards positive should be the objective.

Renaming the award from ADD Award to the “Look, Squirrel!” Award would be better.

chalk board erasers flying at your face and head! Sounds like we went to the same school! excuse me while I examine my life to see the scars those traumatic experiences left on me. Nope none. I have no false hopes or inflated self value. first and LAST...I'm a lost soul saved by the grace of God.

otoh hand, the teacher is definitely old school, I LIKE HER.. ADD award IOW, mom your kid is a pain in the butt to teach who needs a swift kick in the rear about 4x a day. ADD is B.S> its boys being boys!!

Unfortunately you are completely wrong and studies have been shown this time and time again. Inclusion in the class room has tremendous short and long term benefits, for ALL.

No, teachers should not be cruel and should be fired. Inclusion breaks down the barrier and shows all the children that no matter who they are they are all equal.

Unfortunately we do not know for sure the politically bent but we can both summarize. I have found that the liberals who preach tolerance are the first to exclude special education students and try and park them in a trailer on school grounds. They are sick beyond belief.

I did in fact, but considering you cannot tell me apart from my dad in pictures from the same ages except for the clothing and me being bigger I’m pretty sure of my genetics ;)

I agree. This could be a bright young teacher who is using subtle humor to bring out the talents and abilities of her students.

That would have happened to me.

My first grade teacher used to slap me on the back of the head (not hard) and tell me to pay attention.

I did eventually learn to follow teachers with my eyes, even as I was speed boating across the world.
