Collins: I Will Not Support a Nominee Who Demonstrated Hostility to Roe V. Wade

Sen. Susan Collins (R., Maine) said on Sunday that any nominee for the Supreme Court that had demonstrated hostility to Roe V. Wade would not receiver her support.

CNN host Jake Tapper asked Collins about how President Donald Trump expressed desire to nominate justices who may vote to overturn Roe V. Wade if offered the opportunity. Collins, who supports Roe V. Wade, is a key vote in the Senate, where Republicans only have a one vote majority in the chamber.

"With all due respect, the Supreme Court, as we know, it overturns its own rulings all the time," Tapper said. "It has overruled more than 200 of its own decisions, once just last week and it is a stated goal of President Trump and Vice President Pence to appoint Supreme Court justices who will vote to overturn Roe Versus Wade. whether they said it on the campaign trail or they say it now, it's almost immaterial, it's a stated goal."

There is a big difference between having a very liberal Republican and a Dem. Even the most liberal R gets to help determine who leads the Senate. Only the majority in the Senate gets to set its agenda, etc.

Susan Collins is the women's version of John McCain in the Senate.

She's a liberal who runs under the little "r" banner to get elected but then votes with the big "D" caucus during her six year term.

She's a female RINO of the species.

"With all due respect, the Supreme Court, as we know, it overturns its own rulings all the time, …"

From related threads …

Today’s low-information citizens have grown up with a constitutionally dysfunctional, state sovereignty-ignoring Supreme Court and consequently think that it’s normal for the Supremes to flip-flop on case decisions.

The problem with Senate-confirmed justices is this. Citizens abuse their 17th Amendment power to elect senators by electing senators who unsurprisingly don’t know (ignore?) the fed’s constitutionally limited powers any better than the voters do.

So low-information citizens wind up shooting both feet off by electing a corrupt Congress that not only steals state powers but also steals state revenues and citizens wallets uniquely associated with those powers, citizen’s wallets stolen by means of unconstitutional federal taxes.

The icing on the Senate’s 17th Amendment cake is this. Senators are able to protect Congress’s mischief by confirming state sovereignty-ignoring activist Supreme Court justices who declare unconstitutional laws passed by Congress to be constitutional.

What a mess! 8^P

What a constitutional crisis!!! 8^P

Patriots not only need to elect a Trump-supporting, state sovereignty-respecting Congress in the 2018 elections, but they also need to support Trump in leading the states to repeal the 16th & ill-conceived 17th Amendments.

But don’t the idiot voters of Maine understand a liberal Republican will always be a thorn in the side of a Republican president instead of a more conservative or less liberal Republican? I’d like to hear their argument of why they vote for a liberal Republican over someone more conservative if their intentions is to vote among party lines.

Democratic Senator Bob Casey is a pro-life Democrat, while Republican Senator Susan Collins is a pro-abortion Republican, yet no one expects Bob Casey to betray his fellow Democrats by voting in favor of Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee.

This is about Susan Collins more than it’s about abortion. Her role in the Senate has often been to sabotage her fellow Republicans, which means she has often helped the Democrats.

In a similar manner, Benedict Arnold helped the British during the Revolutionary War by undermining his own country America whose side he pretended to be on.

Of course, Susan Collins would also be betraying every Republican in Maine who voted for her and, like virtually every Republican in America, wants another Conservative justice on the Supreme Court.

They need 50 votes to confirm a pro-life justice and they are not even close to 50.

Please allow me to interpret her political-speak:

“Make me an offer to get my vote for your selection.”

Republicans have 54 senators. Like I said earlier here and in other threads, has there ever been a time when even the most liberal senator voted against a Republican SCOTUS nominee EVER before? Someone else in this thread said they never have before.

Men need Roe v. Wade so they can continue to have unprotected sex with females without any need for romance, commitment or financial responsibility.

Bork got pulled when Specter and those types withdrew support. That’s how we got Kennedy, with a brief interlude of a guy named Douglas Ginsberg who smoked some pot.

“Demonstrating hostility” to a badly written law?

I doubt Roe v Wade would ever be overturned. And it really doesn’t matter. If abortion were left to the states it would still be legal in probably half or more. And where it is illegal it will still be performed. Like the one W Bush’s girlfriend had to get. An obgyn performed a D&C on he pregnant uterus. D&Cs are routinely done on women with problem menstruation and also on pregnant women whose embryos have died. There would be no way to know when a willing doctor performed one on a woman with an embryo inside still alive. Abortions are here to stay, like murder and rape. They will never be stopped completely.

Stopping abortions for girls feeling scared and desperate is best done by reaching their hearts and minds, helping them make it through. The ultrasound machine has stopped more abortions than religious people carrying signs outside PP.

That she is.
We have conservative Mainers like me up here, but we are outnumbered by the Rats who moved up here and are trying to
turn my beloved state in to a sh**hole.

Please accept my apology for Collins, fellow FReepers!

can’t wait for the red wave. Then this evil rat can become a Democrat and her vote won’t matter. May God bring karma onto her for her evil.

There are Freepers who condemn and hate all Germans because of Merkel.

There are Freepers who condemn and hate all Canadians because of Trudeau.

Perhaps there are Freepers that will condemn and hate you because of Collins. I am not one of them.

This is not in the least about Roe v Wade. It is about supporting progressivism and stopping Trump.

Please accept my apology for Collins, fellow FReepers!

Please allow me to express my complete disgust for my two idiot Senators. A lot of the blame lies with lazy conservatives in Virginia who don't bother to vote.
