Just read that after the last rescue, the main pump that had pumped millions of gallons out failed and started flooding the cave so badly the rescue SEALs who had remained behind to retrieve the air tanks and other gear had to leave it all behind and barely made it out themselves.

What timing!

And they did give the boys a sedative to try to prevent panic.

Just so amazing and considering that some were very weak, one especially so concerned them they rushed him to the helipad wiithout thee police escort vehicles.

Much gratitude for answered prayers and the best possible outcome except the blessed one who laid down his life for his friends according to the Christian faith.

I haven’t been following this super close, but...why was this soccer team brought 3 miles into a cavern complex during monsoon season. I would assume that the risk would be known. If so, highly irresponsible.

The children should not be punished The criminal perpetrator is the “coach” he should be held on criminal negligence and attempted murder The man must be removed from all future contact with these victims He should be identified as a criminal felon

On what grounds is he guilty of all this? What drives your "guilty before proven innocent" visceral reaction? Animus towards such authority figures in general?

(Lots of crap on twitter where folks are saying stuff like “Now maybe they can come over here and rescue the 10,000 kid's locked up in the ICE cages.”

While they fight for the right to murder such in the womb to prevent living entry into the world, and thus having to care for them. So much for "compassion" and "open borders."

Thanks. Good article .

THE football coach trapped with the Thai schoolboys in a flooded cave has cheated death before, aged 10, when a disease swept through his village, sparing only him. Ekkapol Chantawong was the only member of his family who survived the epidemic which overcame his Northern Thailand home town in 2003. The disease killed his seven-year-old brother, then his mother and father. Until he was 12, Mr Ekkapol was looked after by extended family but was a “sad and lonely” little boy, his aunt Umporn Sriwichai told The Australian newspaper.

“Because he had experienced the pain of losing loved ones since he was very young … we cannot stand such tragedies anymore.” But Mr Ekkapol is now reportedly suffering from malnutrition, after giving too much of the available food in the cave to the boys.

The boys became trapped when they entered the cave system, leaving their shoes and bags near the mouth of the cave to write their names on the wall. Dutch cave diver Ben Raymanents spoke with the trapped boys who told him it was a kind of initiation ritual.

The other article . states: The boys were at risk of suffering medium to long-term mental health issues like depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder

I think this is based on Western culture, with its sensationalist fear mongering and helicopter parenting, whereas these rural Asian kids have likely lived a life showing much self-reliance and doing adventurous things together that at least the liberal elite would never sanction.

“... Elon Musk .... opportunistic .... Not helpful .... self-promotional ....”

What he did is throw money and tech at the problem, providing alternatives. That is the resource he has — money/tech. If something had gone wrong with the chosen plan, perhaps Musk’s device would have been helpful.

Options are always good.

Most people sat on their hands.

Agree completely that they will be more resilient.

Even after the tremendous loss that the assistant coach loved thru, he learned meditation to help him. He found a new family in the soccer team. He is an example of resilience.

Thanks!!! They all appear really well. That’s wonderful. But, I only counted 8 boys there. Did I miscount or are the others in a different area?

I left many comments throughout this discussion admitting that I wasn’t very informed about how it all started. While there’s still some ambiguity, it does appear that the coach and/or assistant coach was sacrificially helpful.
