The real question is why didn't you do anything significant about ILLEGAL immigration? Most Americans have no problem with LEGAL merit-based immigration and military marriage immigration (green card).

Amen! Our immigration system actually PUNISHES talented foreigners who could contribute and want to come legally by putting them through a 7-to-9 year trip through Bureaucrat Hell in order to get their green cards.
