Australia could add 'values test' for migrants, Malcolm Turnbull says

Australia will consider adding a “values test” for those considering permanent residency in order to protect its “extraordinarily successful” multicultural society, Malcolm Turnbull said. The prime minister confirmed what his citizenship and multicultural minister Alan Tudge told the Australia/UK Leadership Forum overnight, where he floated the idea of a “values” test to fend off “segregation”.

Tudge told his London audience “our ship is slightly veering towards a European separatist multicultural model and we want to pull it back to be firmly on the Australian integrated path”.

“Some of the challenges to social cohesion that we are facing today are similar to ones that the UK is facing – such as ethnic segregation and liberal values being challenged.”

Speaking in Tasmania on Friday...

The largest immigrant pop in Australia is from India but a religion search shows Islamists outnumber Hindus 2-1 and are about equal in number to Buddhists, Islamists accounting for over 14% of the population. Not a good mix or percentage, considering Hindus and Buddhists are compatible with Christians but not so compatible with Islamists, who they were probably fleeing from in the first place.

Excellent idea. Prospective immigrants should be admitted solely on the basis of merit and that needs to include passing the values test. If you are unwilling to conform to American values, you need not apply to come here.

I have 2 words for anyone who thinks the Australian government is serious: Alexander Downer.

Not that easy, considering that we no longer have "values" as the word should be defined.

"Do you support LGBTQAZGD+1.7XYZ? agenda?"

"Do you believe in unrestricted government-funded abortion?"

"Do you believe that the government should redistribute wealth?"

"Do you believe the white man is to blame and should be punished, for everything?"

The average illegal immigrant from Honduras or El Salvador would say 'no' to the first two and 'hell yes' to the second two.

Later undesirable actions that don’t quite rise to the level of outright criminality (yet) could be reviewed in the light of statements on such a values test, and if statements on that test do not coincide with that later behavior, then fraudulent entry could be cause for ejection. If, that is, they have the determination to use it in that manner. Suspect they wouldn’t but the lies would be laid bare.

If they have any value, why aren’t they trying to improve their native country. IOW, they have no back bone but don’t have a rap sheet.

Good thought, that - like travelers to the US have to fill out an immigration form (at least it used to be that way back when) stating they don’t have criminal intent or somesuch. Do something bad they can bust you for lying on the form at the very least - and off you go.

I don’t have the same confidence that the Aussies would follow through here, though...

PS: They call it a “test” and not a sworn statement...

10 year probationary citizenship would put the kibosh on a lot of BS. If they intend to become a part of society here and intend to obey the laws then not a problem. There was a time when new citizens did not have the right to vote for a set period of years in some states, so not without precedent.
