It sounds like a self evident truth that children, in this case, daughters, benefit from having a strong father in her life.

This subject doesn’t get talked about often enough, in my opinion, as our culture has normalized single motherhood.

Anyone else here, remember the liberal/media/Hollywood meltdown, when Dan Quayle criticized Murphy Brown having a baby out of wedlock on her TV show?

At least ever since then, no politician is willing to discuss this particular subject. We have to just accept that we normalized single motherhood, without talking about the problems with such a chosen lifestyle.

A) I lived in Shanghai for 3 years in the mid 90’s.
B) There is no safer place on earth for a westerner.
C) Your daughter will love this experience.

Well, I should have added that this will be her fifth or sixth visit to China (her grandparents live there, but not in Shanghai), and the lady who is running the program is from our home town and helped my daughter launch her STEM-for-kids program when she was a high-school sophomore; it is aimed at third- through sixth-graders, she was pretty successful with it.

That lady (who is Chinese) got a job as principal of an "international school" in Shanghai, and moved back; one of her first acts was to invite my daughter to basically scale up her program for Chinese children.

We'll see how many of the promised TAs actually materialize. I've a feeling the students will definitely materialize.

The biggest thing (from my point of view) is that the media (and other) recognition my daughter got as a result of her STEM program got her into a very good college with a pretty good scholarship package. Members of that school's alumni have been reaching out to her all summer via email, and I'm very impressed by them and by the way they've made her feel.

Their "admission literature" was incredibly well designed and clever. The first sign she got in was when she opened her iPhone messaging app and fireworks appeared all over the screen, along with the school's football song.

Thanks for your good wishes and encouragement. I'm obviously rather proud of her, a unique sensation that I've had a few years to get used to.

Same here. Daughter #1 is hiking the John Muir Trail as I write doing 15 miles a day. She set out with a hiking partner, but she is now going solo.

LOL...you got that right! They don’t exactly look like heavy equipment operators, loggers, farmers or U.S Marines, do they?

Rather ironic she is going to China to teach STEM subjects!

My middle daughter did a lot of biology and math tutoring of high school kids to help pay for college. Most of her clients were Chinese. I always thought that was ironic, too.

Unfortunately, women have manage to turn boys into the sniveling little metrosexuals they always said they wanted.

Just want to keep you out of trouble! ;)

Thanks! The interesting thing is, although she hits 70 in a few weeks, when I look at her or think about her, I still see that 21-year-old 'babe'!
