Environmental regulations are the only thing between us and the sea | Opinion

If you're paying a mortgage on a house south of Interstate10, I have some bad news for you. For that matter, if you own a business, work or play south of that line (I'm thinking hunting and fishing) the news is just as dire:

President Donald Trump and your GOP congressional delegation are preparing to increase the odds that the Gulf of Mexico will drown your homes and any future your grandchildren might have in south Louisiana.

That's because Trump has nominated Brett Kavanaugh, a regular opponent of government regulations on businesses, to fill the coming vacancy on the Supreme Court -- and he has the support of your GOP delegation.

Environmental lawyers say Kavanaugh's confirmation could be a disaster for south Louisiana because the only chance the state has to win its $92 billion do-or-die race against sea level rise and sinking land is to keep government regulations reducing the volume of greenhouse gases industries are pumping into the air...

So Kavanaugh will have the power to raise the water level in just the bayou and not the rest of the world’s shoreline. He will be not just a supreme justice but a supreme wizard.

If we don’t reject Kavanaugh we will die.

Gotcha.

No argument, but it is one truth that is lost on the “sheeple”.

The counter argument the Left delivers is: “So what”, “WE have to do what WE can, anyway”. Theirs is the “this policy is right because it makes us feel good” method, that is used on the sheeple. It gets them to personally identify with a policy because the propaganda convinces them they can pat themselves on the back for “doing a good thing”. THAT is such a huge part of the Liberal line, as most of the time the sheeple actually understand very little of anything about the issue, other than what the media has TOLD THEM to think.

Yes, it’s just like the rest of the liberal agenda: I derive my moral authority by voting to force other people to do things that I think are morally right. It’s very easily purchased moral authority!

The United States is doing very well when it comes to pollution control. We met the Kyoto protocol without joining. We are doing better than the countries that stayed in the Paris Accord. What will Kavanaugh be able to do about the big polluters like China and India?

What’s the difference between NOLA and Holland?

The government of Holland enforces a “1000 year flood” standard on its infrastructure.

The government of NOLA, not so much.

120 years ago, before we had all of these regulations, all of that land was underwater? Only the passing of the regulations made the Gulf waters recede? Wasn’t that horrifically anti-environmental, causing the seas to disappear like that?

If these enviro-whackos hadn’t blocked the NOLA seawall upgrades several decades ago Katrina wouldn’t have had the impact the author is whining about now.

What a load of crap. There are efforts underway that are pretty successful at reclaiming land but a lot of them are hindered by regulation and environmentalists. One of the more successful ones is one done by a local parish, ducks unlimited, and I think ConocoPhillips. They are reclaiming land faster and cheaper than the federal government can with no federal government money.
