Toronto Mayor John Tory described the shooting as “an unspeakable act” and further evidence that stricter gun control regulations are needed in the city. Yeah, that's worked well in Chicago and DC, two cities with very strict gun control laws.

Toronto Mayor proposes more gun controls for city -— before anyone has the full story about what happened, motivation, background of shooter, etc.
Therefore, I am forced to go out on a limb and propose the only step that will truly work to calm the public and quell the politicians’ fear that they won’t be reelected if they don’t do something no matter how dumb that something is: Toronto needs an ordinance requiring “Gun Free Zone” signs to be larger and to be lit up at night.
There! Move on!

I hadn’t thought about it, but maybe the Stanley Cup drought has reached the point of pushing people over the edge. If that is the case, either the NHL needs to rig things for the Leafs next season or Toronto will turn into Kabul and it can be blamed on the Leafs and their management.

I’m going to out on a limb here and speculate that this wasn’t a hockey player wearing a playoff beard.
They did make the playoffs this year, so you can’t advance that theory as confidently as you could some years. Maybe someone wanted to be traded and the Leafs insisted that he stay in Toronto.
