A server at a Texas steakhouse who went viral for sharing what he called a racist message from a customer, lied about what happened, his employer told a local newspaper.
Saltgrass says the story that one of their servers shared on social media about receiving a racist note was fabricated.
The server, Khalil Cavil, shared a photo of the receipt containing the note to Facebook.
The note said We dont tip terrorists and was shared thousands of times on social media.
At the time, the restaurant corroborated the story and even confirmed they banned the customers from eating there again.
But on Monday, Cavil admitted to the Odessa American he wrote the note himself.
I did write it. I dont have an explanation. I made a mistake. There is no excuse for what I did, he said.
The newspapers article said Cavil said he hoped the post would spur conversation about this hatred that is still going on, that is still here and prevalent. I just wanted people to understand that.
After sharing the post on Facebook, Cavil received money donations which he tells the newspaper All money is being processed and being return(ed). Most all of it has been returned.
Cavil said he admitted the lie to Saltgrass Sunday, what he called the first step into making it right.
He concluded by telling the newspaper, Im sorry. I deeply made a huge, big mistake. And Im in the process of getting the help that I need.
Terry Turney, COO of Saltgrass released the following statement on Monday:
After further investigation, we have learned that our employee fabricated the entire story. The customer has been contacted and invited back to our restaurant to dine on us. Racism of any form is intolerable, and we will always act swiftly should it occur in any of our establishments. Falsely accusing someone of racism is equaling disturbing.
Somebody needs to be put near the top of the “Do Not Tip” List.
Has one of these incidents ever proven to be true?
At least he's seeing where he went wrong. An overreaction to real discrimination. Young men do stupid things. I did, and sometimes still do, even though I'm old now.
Fundamentally a good man. May God bless him with discernment.
Try harder to figure that out.
I can imagine a bigot withholding a tip, but it seems particularly stupid to tell the server why, especially if the bigot likes the food there.
The hoaxes dilute the real situations.
I do believe that makes 100 per cent of these things, at least the ones that elicit public indignation, that are authored by the supposed targets of these heinous “hate crimes.”
Most of them cannot coexist with the rest of us.
“Cavil said he hoped the post would spur conversation about this hatred that is still going on, that is still here and prevalent. I just wanted people to understand that.”
The hatred in his hear that would cause him to libel people for his own gain?
Falsely accusing people of racism is worse than racism.
Falsely accusing men of rape is worse than rape.
Because the system is geared to believe the victimwho are really the criminals when they falsely accuse innocent people. They use the system as their weapon of choice, and suffer very little consequences as compared to what the innocent people truly faced receiving if found guilty for crimes they didn’t commit.
He wanted to ruin some guys life. He is not a fundamentally good man. He is a pain in the ass. Discernment indeed!
That's not a mistake. That's intentional fraud with the intent to deceive for the purpose of stirring up hate.
Cavil said he hoped the post would spur conversation about this hatred that is still going on, that is still here and prevalent.
When they cant find the hate that exists in their imagination they just go ahead and manufacture it.
Well said. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
He succeeded, the Leftist hate and violent plans for the innocent White patron are laid out in the comments here and several other sites: The Root: 'We Don't Tip Terrorist': Customer Banned from Texas Restaurant after Leaving Server Racist Note
So it begs the question, how many fake news stories were ultimately sourced and printed unverified from one millennial looking for some attention on Facebook?
” I dont have an explanation”
The explanation is obvious. He was annoyed at the $0 tip.
That's the problem! The customer was assumed to be guilty before someone grilled this scumball server. The missing "s" on "terrorists" is a give away. Odd that the news report added the "s" in the story.
His humble apology sounds like a phony speech he was advised to give ahead of a lawsuit by the customer. Anyone who calls intentional lying about an innocent person a "mistake" is a phony.
Or the customer left cash for a tip and put no tip on the credit card.
