As an aside, I think everyone should have to pay quarterly taxes. No company payroll withholding.
People would pay a LOT more attention to how much they’re paying in taxes, and what those taxes are going for.
If I could make one change to our government system, eliminating payroll withholding would be it.
When I started working as an independent contractor, the guy I was working with counselled me about escrowing and quarterly taxes. He said I would be shocked at the size of the checks I would have to write to the government. He also said that if all Americans had to pay taxes this way, we would never tolerate having a government the size that it is.
No withholding for anyone.
Pay annually with a check or cash on late October or early November.
Then go and vote.
