She threw out a claim, got challenged, and immediately admitted, "I don't know."
MSNBC’s Katy Tur got burned by making an unfounded claim during her show on Monday.
She made a claim that has often been made as evidence of Trump-Russia collusion. “At the Republican National Convention, the Republican Party decided not to arm Ukraine against Russia,” Tur said, trying to wrap up her show.
Former Trump campaign adviser Sam Nunberg interrupted her, however, and pointed out, “But Ukraine is armed.” The former adviser, who says he can no longer stand Trump, was most likely referencing reports that the Trump administration sent weaponry and aid to the Ukrainian military.
“They decided in the platform, so you could argue that” Tur shot back. She quickly admitted, “I don’t know. We’ll see what happens.”
But the MSNBC reporter’s original assertion was based on a falsehood. According to The Washington Examiner’s Byron York, the Trump campaign amended the original platform language to make it even tougher on Russia. The campaign did, however, tone down the language of the amendment before it was approved.
Is the Republican Party (or the Democrat Party or the Green Party) in charge of military operations? No.
The statement is as ludicrous as it is mendacious as it is uninformed.
At issue was the policy decision whether to provide “ lethal” weaponry ( ie offensive) to Ukraine vs continuing to provide defensive military aid
The GOP was being asked to adopt a stand against widening and lethalizing war in Ukraine
There are a whole host of PATRIOTIC reasons for US citizens to choose to not escalate military operations vs Russia via Ukraine proxy war
Maybe Katy Tur wants to enlist and die over Ukraine vs Russia claims to Crimea and see Ukraine become another Syria, torn apart by “ civil war” and enriching globalist energy and arms dealers
