Trump slams FBI for not warning him Manafort was under investigation

President Trump went after the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the FBI on Wednesday, arguing that his 2016 campaign team should have been warned that campaign chair Paul Manafort was under investigation at the time.

In a tweet, Trump questioned why law enforcement didn't "tell me" that Manafort was being investigated at the time of his hiring, noting that his former aide had previously worked for GOP figures such as President Reagan and Sen. Bob Dole (R-Kan.).

"Paul Manafort worked for Ronald Reagan, Bob Dole and many other highly prominent and respected political leaders. He worked for me for a very short time. Why didn’t government tell me that he was under investigation. These old charges have nothing to do with Collusion - a Hoax!" Trump wrote.

CNN previously reported last September that Manafort, who joined Trump's campaign shortly before the Republican National Convention in 2016, was in under surveillance by the FBI over questions surrounding his lobbying activities in Ukraine since at least 2014.

Manafort appeared in court Tuesday for the opening day of his Virginia trial, where he faces 18 charges of bank and tax fraud, including allegations that he laundered $30 million made from lobbying for pro-Russia parties in Ukraine several years ago. If convicted, Manafort could face up to life in prison.

The former Trump aide, who was ordered to jail last month for violating the terms of his bail agreement, also awaits separate charges in Washington, D.C., involving money laundering and failing to register as a foreign agent. That trial is scheduled to begin in September.

Trump's tweet Wednesday morning came amid a flurry of messages aimed at his attorney general, Jeff Sessions, as well as Robert Mueller's special counsel investigation. The Mueller probe has produced the indictments against Manafort and several other former Trump aides.

The president called on Sessions directly Wednesday to end the probe, which has also resulted in dozens of charges for Russian nationals accused of interfering in the 2016 election. The president has dismissed the probe as a "rigged witch hunt."

I think he wants this in the news so the judge in Manafort's case sees it...and sees it debated by the Dems.

Let's see if the Dems go silent on the "fact".

What I would do (however I readily acknowledge that Trump is smarter and harder working) is to Presidentially demand that all officials in the US Government will be held to a higher standard such that if any official is found to have falsely certified a US Government Document they are subject to immediate dismissal and legal penalties.

Yes, he has.

He’s absolutely correct.

His timing is with purpose.

I recall the powers deep in the bowels of DC talking seriously about not giving nominee Trump daily intelligence briefings which had been the custom prior to DJT’s nomination.

BOWELS was chosen with cause and without prejudice.

It’s all about winning in the court of public opinion.
