The Los Angeles Police Department released footage of their deadly encounter with a man holding a woman hostage with a knife on Wednesday morning.
A witness to the tragedy said Perez began a sawing motion against her throat and cut her throat, at which point LAPD fired 18 shots, killing both Perez and his hostage.
There is an ongoing investigation as to whether the officers actions align with hostage training protocol.

The cops should have shot him before he could start sawing off an innocent bystander’s head.
They may have been justified to shoot at that point, but not the typical cop “spray and pray”. Needed a sharpshooter.
The police should have and could have shot him before he took the hostage. They tried bean bags and then let him retreat to grab a hostage.
Exactly, one press of the trigger, not 18
Should have eliminated the threat while he was backing up towards the female, not after he was able to take her hostage...
No winners here.
Someone needed to shoot before the man could grab the hostage. The beanbag bullets were the cause. They just piss people off.
The one officer with a side view of the suspect should have been the only one to fire as it provided the least obstructed view of the suspect. The others shouldn’t have fired.
If you want someone dead, call the police, they will kill someone or someone’s dog, but no guarantees on who goes down. 18 rounds, geez.
Dropping the hostage to get a better shot at the perp just seems like bad tactics to me...lol There was a restaurant robbery here some years ago, and the police showed up before the robbers got away from the scene. They had a hostage. Before the robbers were able to get the hostage in the vehicle, the cops opened fire. Hostage was one of the first hit, fortunately he survived. All of the missed shots from the police riddled an apartment complex across the street, narrowly missing some of the inhabitants. The robbers surrendered, I think one of them was wounded, along with the hostage...
18 shots fired; must have been two cops. I saw a study that in a police-action shooting, the average number of shots fired per officer is nine.
There is a reason for that.
18 shots was far too excessive. They should have verbally worked out which officer was best to take the shot, and let him drop the perp.
When dealing with a “person of color”, LAPD is in a no-win situation. If they use deadly force, they risk protests and riots. If they fail to use deadly force early enough, the perp can kill an innocent.
Police are so afraid to shoot anyone anymore for fear of BLM and media criticism, they wait so long. We are reaping what liberals have sowed.
Incompetence at its very worst...geez. The guy had already stabbed someone and they shoot at him with beanbags, which he blocks with a chair. Then they allow him to get close enough to grab a hostage to slit her throat. Then they shoot and kill both of them.
Why the hell did not they not order everyone (most importantly the soon to be hostage) to get out of the area???
At the least every cop there should be fired. I would have to consider manslaughter charges against them also. That was very aggravating to watch.
Agreed, cops should have ‘powned’ him the moment he refused to drop the knife.
Ol’ Johnnie Cockroach scumbag gets another payday, but you knew that was coming after 18 shots fired.
