I think the money is the long game.
Young people with $200K student loans want to take away older people's $2M retirement IRA's to make their own problems go away. They blame older people with long-standing jobs for their current predicament, so they label and dehumanize them to make it easier to vent their frustrations.

The reason they have $200k in student loan debt is because baby boomers defunded public universities after going for virtually free compared to today’s tuition rates. A lot of the animosity comes frol how baby boomers have double dipped, first receiving free stuff and then pulling the ladder up behind them to avoid paying taxes.
