Here' another example of what I said in my #14
Spike Maynard was a registered Democrat and a Circuit Judge (appointed by Jay Rockefeller) for 16 years. He then won a 12 year seat on the Supreme Court of Appeals, again as a Democrat. At the end of this term, he was primaried out and Boy Howdy, was he POd. So POd, that the next year he registered as a Republican and ran for the US House of Representatives gaining the endorsment of Sarah Palin in his loss to Nicki Rahall.
And then there is our (R)...(D)...(R) Governor
