Leah Stokes is an ignoramus.

“cars and trucks are the largest source of carbon pollution”

Nope, not even close. First, there’s no such thing as “carbon pollution”. Second, electricity generation emits more carbon dioxide than cars and trucks. If we only consider cars and trucks subject to CAFE standards, their emissions are far less than those associated with electricity generation.

Congress should be passing new efficiency standards for cars through a law that keeps everyone in this country safer from dirty air and dangerous climate change.

At least she understands who is actually responsible for making laws ...

Instead, big oil companies are the true winners in Trump's plan to roll back this policy. Under the new plan, they can continue to sell large volumes of their dangerous and expensive commodity for gas-guzzling cars.

Oil is dangerous AND expensive? I learned something new today.

I heard an amazing stat just last night, that the huge Santa Rosa fire last year cranked out as much pollution via smoke each day as all the vehicles in California produce in 10 years. I believe it/ I’m over 100 mile from the nearest fire and the amount of smoke in the air these last couple weeks has just been incredible. And trees and grass don’t have catalytic converters. I remember when Mt Pinutubo erupted in the Philippines about 20 years ago it was said its greenhouse gas output was more than all caused by humans since the industrial revolution started. Finally, as a political science major I can tel you that poli sci

The human body is about 20% “carbon pollution”.

Here’s a hypothesis: these wildfires, rich in particulate air pollutants, will cause swings in ground temperatures to moderate as the particles in the air filter the sunlight.

You are predicting smoke from the wildfires?

She is right about autos/light trucks being the largest source of CO2

At one time your were correct but in recent years, power plant CO2 has dropped a great deal because Nat gas and renewables have replaced much of the coal formally used to generate electricity

"Ogg...what is that thing in your hand?
I call it fire. It will keep the cave warm and make food better and safer.
Well get that dangerous and expensive commodity out of here".

Yeah, the consensus is that wildfire will generally cause global cooling.

Man made contributions to that are 3.225% of that .03%.

Manmade CO2 has raised CO2 from under 0.03% to over 0.04% Manmade CO2 adds another 2-3 millionths to that each year. Almost all current observed rise in CO2 is man made. Some 1/100th could still be natural from natural warming over the last few centuries.

The important thing to remember is that the earth was recently in CO2 starvation with the lowest CO2 in earth's history. That threatened all life on the planet. That threat is over thanks to manmade CO2.

I heard all that also. Mt. Saint Helens was a small volcano as far as they go. It covered half the USA in 1-3 inches of ash. It more gasses and particulate than all the power houses in the USA since we started making electricity. Nature is brutal.

Then stop driving your car Professor, don’t fly, and don’t use public transportation systems. Ride your bike or walk to wherever you want to go.
