A progressive young American couple was killed in an Islamic State-claimed terrorist attack last month while on a bike trip around the world.
Jay Austin and Lauren Geoghegan, who were both in their late 20s, quit their jobs in 2017 to embark on a trip around the world. Austin, a vegan, and Geoghegan, a vegetarian, decided that they're were wasting their lives working.
"I’ve grown tired of spending the best hours of my day in front of a glowing rectangle, of coloring the best years of my life in swaths of grey and beige,” Austin wrote on his blog before he quit. “I’ve missed too many sunsets while my back was turned. Too many thunderstorms went unwatched, too many gentle breezes unnoticed.”
The couple documented their year-long journey on social media until it came to a tragic and gruesome end in Tajikistan, a country with a known terrorist presence.

i headed out to a grocery store about midnight in Nashville. Some were worried, I wasn’t. But that was 30 years ago in a much different time.
I doubt I’d try that today.

About a year ago we hosted for one night a middle-aged French couple biking around the world. They had covered most of Europe, a lot of the Middle East and Far East but to my knowledge they had not visited any of the Stans or Africa. We live in California and they had come from the East Coast, wandering through the United States, and were going to continue all the way to Tierra del Fuego, after which they would take a break to spend time with their grown daughter in France, then return to South America to bike up the east coast of the continent. I held my breath as they progressed through Mexico and Central America but they made it. We still get occasional updates from them.
I wonder if they went in there promoting gay rights, gay marriage and other leftist diversity topics.

Like I say, I almost feel sorry for them. They truly must not have known the evil they were about to face.
I’ll bet we can guess their support for Obama, Hillary, Bernie or all three, in some form or another.
