Abuse survivor calls for Cardinal Wuerl's resignation: 'He's criminally responsible'

Two days after Cardinal Donald Wuerl sat down exclusively with FOX 5, others are coming forward to refute the Archbishop of Washington’s claims that he did everything he could to protect victims within the Catholic Church.

A growing number of people are also calling for Wuerl’s resignation, including David Lorenz, the Maryland director for the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, known as SNAP.

Lorenz tells FOX 5 he had direct and one-on-one interactions with Cardinal Wuerl, who was not receptive to Lorenz’s requests on handling victims in the church.

“I wanted him to develop a support group that survivors could come to,” recounted Lorenz about a one-on-one meeting with Wuerl. “I wanted him to publish the names of all credibly accused on the website. I wanted that done. As I went through these specifics, and I got through about four of them, it was clear that he was not happy with me. And basically told me, ‘You need to become sacramentally healed and then you can come back.’ What does sacramentally healed mean? Nobody knows what that means. Basically he was telling me to get lost.”

Resign?

Hell, he should be arrested and on his way to jail!

Watch now as Pope Francis recalls him to Rome so he can live off the fat of the land for the rest of his days and avoid prosecution. Wasn’t that the path the Church took with Cardinal Law of Boston?

Not just law. Per that PA grand jury report, the Catholic Church paid some perps to keep their traps shut.

Not just him. EVERYONE who knew about the coverup after the original allegations, even those not personally involved in abuse or the coverup.

I don't see how the Church can or should survive this one. The two other strikes....(1)Faux Francis and (2)actively supporting the invasion of the US.

No. Cardinal Law was never indicted, and in fact flew back to Boston from Rome to testify before the grand jury. He was not living in Rome to "avoid prosecution".

As was pointed out on another thread, Cardinal Wuerl submitted his resignation three years ago, but Pope Francis hasn’t accepted it yet. He needs to.

Leon J. Podles’s book The Church Impotent, 1999 explains how the Catholic Church allowed/permitted homosexuals into seminaries thence the Priesthood. Male homosexual like young males i.e. Alter boys for a little “carnal/ anal knowledge”

Breitbart News has an article concerning the Catholic Church's homo problem!

There was an outcry at the time to hold him criminally responsible. The Church responded by moving him to Rome and out of harm's way.

See:

Law was the Archbishop of Boston from 1984 until his resignation on December 13, 2002,[1][2] in response to the Roman Catholic Church sex abuse scandal in his archdiocese. Church documents showed he had extensive knowledge of sexual abuse committed by dozens of Catholic priests within his archdiocese and had failed to remove them from the ministry.[3] One priest alone was alleged to have raped or molested 130 children over decades, while Law and other local officials moved him among churches rather than going to the authorities.[3]

Two years after Law resigned from his position in Boston, which Bishop William S. Skylstad called "an important step in the healing process",

And (if you want to know more about this dirtbag):

And with respect to your comment about Cardinal Law not being indicted, I simply ask you, "Is Hillary Clinton indicted?"

By all means, let us have criminal referrals, arrests, and long prison sentences for clerical abusers. Yet the fundamental problem seems likely for now to escape reform by the Catholic Church.

Sadly, for many years, the Vatican set a policy of secrecy and denial, with ready forgiveness and easy rehabilitation for errant priests. Formally, this was based on a belief that children and teens who suffered sexual abuse by priests easily recovered without lasting harm due to the resilience of youth. Based in part on Kinsey's research, psychiatrists long tended to endorse that view.

Of course, other quite seamy motives have also been and remain at work within the Catholic Church. A policy of genuine openness and readiness to admit and pay for abuse would be costly in reputation and money -- perhaps fatally so for many dioceses and careers.

The bedrock problem is that after WW II, covert homosexual networks in seminaries and dioceses became dominant over admissions to the priesthood and promotions to bishop and cardinal. No comprehensive effort has been made to break up those networks and expel the priests involved, and the homosexual element in the Vatican has become increasingly notorious and influential under Pope Francis.

Attraction to teens and young men is integral to the psychology of most homosexuals, which makes homosexual priests an inherent and grave risk when they have contact with male youth. A full accounting of prior offenses and responsible policies as to sexual abuse are impossible as long as homosexuality remains covertly tolerated within the Catholic priesthood. Yet the homosexual element is so embedded and influential that genuine reform seems impossible.

For Catholics like myself, there is much agony in watching the Catholic Church fail to address its grave moral and organizational failings. Cardinal Wuerl exemplifies the problem. Effeminate in manner, with a taste for high living and close male companions, noted for nonjudgemental outreach toward homosexuals and liberal politics, Wuerl is fundamentally unsuitable to be a bishop, let alone a cardinal. He is unlikely though to be removed or to resign unless specific offenses are pinned on him. Let us hope that happens.

In Harrisburg, PA, they are holding a forgiveness mass. AGain the focus on forgiving the perps, rather than house cleaning.

The bishop is fooling himself if he thinks such gestures will calm the sea of troubles the Church faces on this issue. Vigorous, effective reforms are needed — but are unlikely to be forthcoming.
